30 Plano ISD Students Named National Math Stars

30 Plano ISD students have been selected as 2026 National Math Stars, joining a national cohort of 618 high-performing young mathematicians.

National Math Stars (NMS), a nonprofit founded in 2023, identifies students with approximately 1-in-1,000 mathematical talent and supports them through multi-year programs beginning in second and third grades. The organization’s mission is to ensure mathematically extraordinary students from all communities have the resources they need to reach the frontiers of math and science. The program supports students for up to 10 years or through the end of high school.

Applicants complete a multi-stage evaluation that assesses mathematical aptitude, eagerness for deeper STEM exploration and the program’s potential impact on their trajectory. While students may be nominated through teachers, schools, districts or NMS partnerships with state education agencies, applications are open to all learners in active states who meet NMS criteria. The 2026 cohort was selected from nearly 9,000 applicants.
