Plano ISD Celebrates Athletic Excellence at 2026 Hall of Honor Luncheon

Plano ISD Athletics honored a remarkable group of athletes, coaches and community champions during the 2026 Athletic Hall of Honor Luncheon on Monday, May 18, at the Robinson Fine Arts Center. The annual event celebrated individuals whose achievements elevated Plano ISD athletics on the local, collegiate, national and international levels while inspiring generations of student-athletes.

Hosted by Plano ISD Athletics, the luncheon featured remarks from district leaders and honored seven new Hall of Honor inductees alongside two Community Champion recognitions.

Chad Deering — Plano Senior High Soccer

Few athletes in Plano ISD history have reached the international stage quite like Chad Deering. A standout soccer player at Plano Senior High from 1987-89, Deering earned National Soccer Coaches of America Association (NSCAA) High School All-American honors and was named the Gatorade Texas High School Player of the Year in 1988. He also served as captain of the U.S. Under-16 National Team, showcasing his elite talent at an early age.

Deering continued his success at Indiana University, where he became a two-time NCAA All-American before launching an accomplished professional career. He competed internationally as a member of the U.S. Men’s National Team from 1993-2002 and represented the United States in the 1992 Olympic Games and three FIFA World Cups in 1994, 1998 and 2002. Professionally, he played in Germany’s Bundesliga for clubs including Werder Bremen, VfL Wolfsburg and Schalke 04 before earning two Major League Soccer All-Star selections.

Kathy Shackelford — Plano Senior High Soccer & Volleyball Coach

Kathy Shackelford played a key role in building championship-caliber girls athletics programs at Plano Senior High during the 1980s. Serving as head volleyball coach and assistant girls soccer coach from 1979-89, Shackelford helped establish a culture of excellence that produced deep playoff runs and state titles.

Under her leadership and guidance, Plano volleyball advanced to regional tournaments in 1988 and 1989, while the girls soccer program captured state championships in 1986 and 1988 and finished as state runner-up in 1987. Her decade of leadership helped elevate Plano ISD athletics during a transformative era for girls sports.

Rick Cinclair & Marshall Jackson — Plano Senior High School

Plano ISD Athletics honored Rick Cinclair and Marshall Jackson as Community Champions for their longtime leadership, service and advocacy on behalf of Plano ISD students and athletic programs.

Both Cinclair and Jackson are proud Plano ISD graduates who later raised children in the district, continuing a multigenerational connection to Plano ISD schools and programs. Over several decades, the pair have remained deeply involved in the district through booster clubs, alumni associations, fundraising efforts, volunteer leadership and community engagement initiatives supporting students and athletics.

Cinclair and Jackson also served as co-chairs for Plano ISD’s successful 2016 and 2022 bond programs, helping lead community outreach and advocacy efforts that resulted in approximately $1.8 billion of investments benefiting Plano ISD students and athletes. Those bond initiatives funded improvements to athletic facilities, which include upgraded competition spaces, enhanced training environments, safety improvements, new equipment and infrastructure upgrades that continue to support Plano ISD athletic programs and the students who compete in them.

Steve Adair — Plano East Senior High Boys Basketball Coach

The late Steve Adair built one of the most successful basketball programs in Plano East history during his 16 seasons as head boys basketball coach from 1989-2005. During his tenure, Adair compiled a 342-175 coaching record while leading the Panthers to five district championships, nine playoff appearances and a state runner-up finish in 1994.

Known for developing elite talent and competitive teams, Adair coached a McDonald’s All-American and multiple Division I athletes while helping set 20 school records through his teams and players. His influence extended beyond the basketball court through 24 years of service in Plano ISD, including time spent at Clark High School, Vines High School and Forman Elementary.

Kirk & Steve Piskor — Plano East Senior High Football & Baseball

The late Kirk Piskor established himself as one of the premier baseball players in Plano East history during the late 1980s. As a catcher for the Panthers, Kirk earned District MVP honors and helped lead Plano East to a state semifinal appearance in 1987. His dominance behind the plate earned him back-to-back DFW All-Metroplex MVP honors in 1987 and 1988.

Following high school, Kirk was drafted by the Detroit Tigers before continuing his baseball career at the University of Arkansas. There, he earned All-Southwest Conference honors in both 1990 and 1991 and was named the Cape Cod League Playoffs MVP in 1990. His collegiate success led to an opportunity with the Kansas City Royals organization.

A two-sport standout at Plano East, Steve Piskor excelled in both football and baseball from 1984-86. On the football field, he earned All-District and DFW All-Metroplex honors as a defensive back. In baseball, he became one of the top catchers in Texas, earning District MVP honors, All-State recognition and DFW Metroplex Baseball Player of the Year honors in 1986.

Steve’s success led to his selection in the sixth round of the 1986 Major League Baseball Draft by the New York Mets. His legacy in the Metroplex remained strong long after graduation, as he was later named the Dallas Morning News All-Decade Catcher of the 1980s. He also went on to play defensive back at the University of North Texas.

Kathleen Nash & Kristen Nash — Plano West Senior High Basketball & Volleyball

Kathleen Nash’s impact on Plano West athletics was felt across two sports. A standout in both basketball and volleyball from 2003-07, she helped lead the Wolves to a basketball state championship in 2006 and was named MVP of the UIL State Basketball Tournament. She also earned three consecutive Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-State selections in both basketball and volleyball and was recognized as a Prep All-American volleyball player.

At the University of Texas, Kathleen became one of the most accomplished players in program history as a four-year starter for the Longhorns. She became the first player in Texas women’s basketball history to record 1,000 points, 900 rebounds and 200 made three-pointers in a career. She also finished second all-time in program history in career three-pointers made and free-throw percentage while earning the Robin Roberts/WBCA Broadcasting Scholarship Award in 2011.

Kristen Nash was a cornerstone of Plano West’s dominant girls basketball program during the mid-2000s. A leader on the 2006 state championship team, she earned Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) and Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) First Team All-State honors and was named the Chevrolet DFW Female Athlete of the Year in 2006. She also earned recognition as both a McDonald’s All-American nominee and a Street & Smith All-American nominee.

Kristen continued her basketball career at the University of Texas, where she produced one of the most decorated careers in program history. She finished with 2,167 career points and 1,422 rebounds while averaging a double-double in points and rebounds throughout all four years of her collegiate career.

As the luncheon concluded, the event served as a powerful reminder of the tradition, pride and lasting legacy woven throughout Plano ISD athletics. From championship teams and record-setting athletes to influential coaches and dedicated community advocates, the Hall of Honor continues to celebrate the individuals whose contributions have shaped generations of Wildcats, Panthers and Wolves. Their achievements not only reflect excellence in competition, but also the enduring impact of leadership, commitment and school pride across Plano ISD.
