79 National Merit Semifinalists, 2022

Plano ISD joins with the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC®) to congratulate 79 Plano ISD National Merit Program® semifinalists in the 67th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million that will be offered in the spring of 2022.

To be considered for a merit scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. Nearly 95 percent of semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and approximately half of the finalists will win a Naitonal Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title. Three types of national Merit Scholarships will be offered in the spring of 2022 to finalists: 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships are awarded on a state-representational basis; 1,000 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards are provided by nearly 220 corporations and businesses; and 180 colleges and universities are expected to finance some 4,000 college-sponsored Merit Scholarships for finalists who will attend their institution.
