PISD Teacher Receives Nancy Trapp Leadership Award
June 29, 2023
Plano ISD Secondary Mathematics Coordinator Whitney Evans was awarded the Nancy Trapp Leadership Award from the Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics (TCTM) during the state math conference this week in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Nancy Trapp TCTM Leadership Award is presented to a TCTM member nominated by a TCTM Affiliated Group. Whitney is honored for her contributions to improving mathematics education at the local and state level. She is responsible for designing innovative staff learning and has promoted the local TCTM Affiliated mathematics council.
Whitney is pictured with Dr. Jim Wohlgehagen. He served as the math coordinator in Plano for 30 years and was Whitney’s coordinator and later her mentor when she became a specialist.
"What an honor to even be mentioned in the same breath as Nancy Trapp and other amazing math leaders from across Texas who received this award," said Evans. "Dr. Jim Wohlgehagen, PISD math coordinator for 26 years and a great leader in math education, was such a wonderful example and mentor to me. He taught me invaluable lessons about effective math instruction, building relationships with teachers, and how to glean wisdom from others both inside and outside of the field of mathematics. I’m humbled to serve our teachers as they do the important work of helping students unleash the power of mathematics."
We are Plano ISD proud of Whitney for this esteemed honor and all she continues to lead at the district and state levels!
