Plano ISD Students Attend 10th Annual Plano Mayor's Summer Internship Program Job Fair
April 25, 2023
Hundreds of Plano teens headed to a professional job fair at the Plano Event Center on Friday, April 21 in hopes of landing a sought-after position in the Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program. In its 10th year, the learn-and-earn program gives outstanding Plano and Plano ISD high school students an opportunity to gain powerful experience through employment in a professional workplace. The Fair was sponsored by JPMorgan Chase.
By the end of the fair, 200-plus rising juniors and seniors met with more than 60 employers, representing the area’s top businesses and nonprofits, who conducted approximately 360 interviews. Plano ISD Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams was also on-site shaking hands with students and offering encouragement throughout the afternoon.
Before the fair, volunteer sponsor NTT Data Services conducted more than 50 mock interviews with the students, offering last-minute tips and helping them to feel at ease.
Within the next few weeks, students will get the much-anticipated news about whether they landed a coveted internship. If so, they will make a minimum of $12 an hour working 20-40 hours per week. The summer internship runs eight weeks from June 12 through Aug. 4.
The Plano Mayor’s Summer Internship Program is supported by dozens of local organizations, including Capital One, who has served as presenting sponsor since the program launched in 2014.
In addition to founding sponsor Capital One and job fair sponsor JPMorgan Chase, other major sponsors are Boeing (Intern Enrichment Sponsor) and NTT Data (Volunteer Sponsor). Other sponsors include Bank of America, Liberty Mutual, Texas Health, FedEx Office and Atmos Energy. Plano ISD is the education partner.
