For the second time in a row, Plano ISD food and nutritional services received a “zero-findings” administrative review from the Texas Department of Agriculture. A “zero-findings” administrative review exemplifies the highest standards of caring and service by teaching children the relationship between proper eating and good health.
The Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act, as amended by the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, requires the Texas Department of Agriculture to conduct an administrative review of school nutrition programs at least once every three years. As a new federal requirement, the administrative review is designed to conduct specified parts of the review off-site and others on-site. The Texas Department of Agriculture evaluates compliance with the following program requirements in the critical and general areas of review, which include: meal access and reimbursement, meal pattern and nutritional quality, resource management, general program compliance and the operation of any other applicable federal programs.
Plano ISD staff, involved in the operation of the school nutrition program, are heavily involved in the review process, off-site and on-site, to respond to questions and provide documentation regarding the operation of the school nutrition program. The administrative review began in early September 2018 — twelve weeks prior to the Texas Department of Agriculture doing an on-site review of program operations at Shepton High School, Carpenter and Haggard Middle Schools and Barron, Hughston, Jackson, Mendenhall and Sigler Elementary Schools which took place during the week of November 12.
