Mar. 29, 2019 - Plano ISD Students Sweep Region 10 Citizen Bee

Plano ISD hosted the Region 10 Citizen Bee at Sockwell Center on March 28. Regional Bee competition is open to students in grades 9-12 and consists of a timed, written test and questions answered in oral rounds. Topic included: the United States Constitution, important documents, people, landmark Supreme Court cases (71 cases were included for the regional competition), civic values and skills, and current events. The student with the highest combined score will advance to the State Citizen Bee held in Austin, Texas on Saturday, April 27 at the Texas Law Center.

Plano ISD students swept the top three awards.

  • Zoe Makler, Plano West Senior High School, first place - advances to the state Citizen Bee
  • Sarah Rutherford, Plano West Senior High School, second place
  • Yashvini Deva, Jasper High School, third place

Plano West Senior High Social Studies Teacher John Scott and Jasper High School History Teacher Caitlin Bailey-Garafola are the Citizen Bee sponsors for Plano West Senior High and Jasper High School respectively.
