Board Names New Assistant Superintendent for Technology Services

At their December board meeting, the Plano ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of Patrick Tanner to lead the district’s technology department as the new assistant superintendent for technology services. Mr. Tanner replaces Dan Armstrong who recently retired after serving with the district for more than 30 years. 

In his former role as executive director of technology in Allen ISD, Mr. Tanner supported the instructional mission of the district through his vision and leadership in the development and implementation of Allen ISD’s information technology plan. He led organizational and cross-unit teams in the areas of enterprise applications development, network infrastructure services, cloud technologies, datacenter operations, endpoint management, customer support and instructional technology.

“My children have benefited tremendously from their education in Plano schools, and I am honored and excited to join such an excellent district,” Mr. Tanner said.“ I look forward to working with this outstanding team of educators, and I am proud to serve the students, staff and community of Plano ISD.”

Assistant Superintendent for Technology Services Patrick Tanner with his wife, Tjuana. Two of their children were able to attend the meeting: daughter Kaila is a Plano Senior High graduate and their youngest son, Gabriel, is a Beverly Elementary student.

Mr. Tanner’s vast leadership and technology experience includes serving in the role Chief Technology Officer at both Responsive Education Solutions (ResponsiveEd) and Carroll Independent School District. Mr. Tanner was a network engineer for Garland ISD and led engineering teams, as well as teams of developers and analysts, at Skyward, Inc., Southwest Airlines, and the United States Air Force. 

Mr. Tanner received his master’s degree, Summa Cum Laude, in executive leadership from Liberty University and bachelor’s degree, Summa Cum Laude, in ministry and leadership.
