Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams Named 2024 Athena Award Winner

During a special surprise recognition at the Board of Trustees Meeting on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, Plano ISD Superintendent Dr. Theresa Williams was announced as the Plano Chamber of Commerce’s 2024 Athena Award recipient.

The surprise announcement was made by 2023 Athena Award winner Suzy Jones of ArtCentre of Plano who said, “Each year, this prestigious award recognizes one of Plano’s most accomplished professional women who excels in her field, devotes time and energy in her community and empowers other women to succeed.” Dr. Williams was selected for her outstanding educational leadership and commitment to mentoring future leaders in Plano ISD and beyond.

Joining Ms. Jones in making the announcement were other past Athena Award recipients: Chris Krupa Downs, Carole Greisdorf, Mary Jo Dean, Alice Hobbs, Jan Rugg, Tammy McSwain, André Davidson, Shelly Strickland, Mabrie Jackson and our very own Plano ISD School Board President Nancy Humphrey.

“I am honored and humbled to be among such an esteemed group of women,” said Dr. Williams. "Their dedication to serving the community and uplifting others is truly inspiring, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue this legacy.”

Dr. Williams and other community leaders will be recognized at this year’s Best of Plano celebration on Friday, November 1, at the Marriott Legacy Town Center.
