The Plano ISD Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at the Plano ISD Administration Center.

  • School Board President Missy Bender provided an inspirational message.
  • The board welcomed and congratulated Ashlyn Hillyard, a senior at Plano Senior High School and the UIL 6A Girls Cross Country State Champion, and her coach Amy Dehdari, Plano Senior High Girls’ Head Cross Country Coach. Ashlyn and Amy led the Pledge of Allegiance.
  • A presentation of students who have achieved success at state level and above was displayed in a slideshow at the meeting. The board congratulated the students for their outstanding accomplishments.
  • Ty Jones, vice president of the Leadership TASB Alumni Executive Board, recognized Trustee Tammy Richards as a Master Trustee and Leadership TASB graduate.
  • There were no speakers regarding agenda items during the public comment portion of the agenda.

  • The board took the following actions or heard the following reports:
    • Items on the consent agenda were approved.
    • Trisha Windham with Davis Advocates presented information on legislative priorities and advocacy activities for the 86th Legislative Session outlining areas of focus.
    • Sharon Bradley, director for family and social services, provided a report on social emotional learning in K-12 classrooms as well as future plans.
    • Superintendent Sara Bonser, Dr. Theresa Williams, chief operating officer, and Dr. Dash Weerasinghe, senior executive director for assessment, research and program evaluation, provided an overview of High Reliability Schools and the Plano ISD learning journey.
    • Randy McDowell, chief financial officer, presented the 2019-20 budget calendar and goals.
    • Karla Oliver, assistant superintendent for government, community and planning initiatives, reported on input received for the 2019-20 instructional calendar drafts previously presented at the November board meeting for review. With nearly 4,300 respondents, Draft A, featuring a Monday start date of August 12 and end date of May 22, was the favored option. The board requested that the calendar be reviewed by staff considering testing dates and SEL as related to a Monday versus mid-week start. The board will review the calendar again in January.
    • The board approved changes to course offerings for the 2019-20 school year as presented by Dr. Lisa Thibodeaux, executive director for secondary academic services.
    • The board approved policy CCA(LOCAL) Local Revenue Sources: Bond Issues under first reading as presented by Randy McDowell. This policy will be presented for adoption under second reading at a subsequent meeting. CCA(REGULATION) Local Revenue Sources: Bond Issues was presented for information only.
