College Entrance & Readiness Testing
SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test)
The SAT measures a student’s readiness for college by assessing skills in reading, writing, and math. Colleges may use SAT scores as part of their admissions process and for scholarship consideration.
Most students take the SAT during their junior or senior year. Plano ISD offers the SAT during the school day for juniors each spring.
ACT (American College Test)
The ACT evaluates what students have learned in English, math, reading, and science, with an optional writing section. Many colleges accept either the ACT or SAT for admissions and scholarships.
Students can register to take the ACT on national test dates, typically during their junior or senior year.
TSIA2 (Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0)
The TSIA2 determines whether a student is ready for college-level coursework at Texas public colleges and universities. Students who meet college readiness benchmarks—or qualify for exemptions through SAT, ACT, or other criteria—can enroll directly in credit-bearing courses.
The TSIA2 is usually taken by high school students who plan to attend a Texas public college or take dual credit courses.

ASVAB Career Exploration Program
The ASVAB Career Exploration Program (ASVAB CEP) is a free program offered by the U.S. Department of Defense that helps students in grades 10–12 explore their skills, interests, and career options. The program includes:
-
The ASVAB multiple aptitude test, which measures abilities in areas such as math, science, and technical skills.
-
An Interest Self-Assessment, which helps students identify career fields that match their strengths and preferences.
-
Career Exploration Tools to help students plan for both civilian and military career pathways.
Under Senate Bill (SB) 1843, all Texas school districts must offer students in grades 10–12 the opportunity each year to take the ASVAB and meet with a military recruiter.
Testing must take place during normal school hours at a time that minimizes conflict with extracurricular activities. Districts are also required to communicate the date, time, and location of testing to students and parents/guardians.
