Plano Visual Arts Academy (PVAA) | Grades 5-7

Program Description

PVAA is a summer enrichment program for passionate incoming and current middle school artists (grades 5-7) that want to grow and develop their creative skills in a rigorous environment with other dedicated art students. Classes are taught by members of the award-winning PISD Visual Arts staff. Instruction has been designed to be unique, engaging, and correspond with an overarching skill each week. Students will explore techniques and mediums using big ideas to guide their artistic investigations. Woven throughout the three weeks will be drawing instruction and the creative process.

Schedule Overview

• Days 1-4: June 1-4 will focus on sculpture/ceramics.
• Days 5-8: June 8-11 will focus on printmaking.
• Days 9-12: June 15-18 will focus on painting.

Eligible Students

• Current Plano ISD students in grades 5-7
• We encourage serious art students with a drive and passion for creating a variety of media to consider signing up. If you are unsure if this program is right for your student, please reach out to their art teacher to discuss

• June 1 - 18, 2026 (Monday - THURSDAY)
• 7:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

• Hendrick Middle School
• Robinson Middle School
• McMillen High School

Please review the program feeder patterns to identify your student's Exploration campus assignment, based on their neighborhood elementary campus.

Cost

• $300 per student for the entire program (3 enrichment courses).  
  • Students eligible for Reduced Lunch will pay $180 for the entire program. Students eligible for Free Lunch will pay $120 for the entire program.
  • Note: A 4.5% software fee will be applied to all transactions..
• Cash payments can be made at the Plano ISD Administration Building.
  • Money orders, Cashier's Checks, or cash can be accepted. 
    • We are unable to accept personal checks.
  • Please email SummerSchool@pisd.edu to schedule a time.
• Cancellations:
  • For cancellations before May 11, 2026: $30 is retained for administrative costs.
  • No refunds will be processed after May 11, 2026.  This includes students withdrawing from the program after the start date or students who are removed from the program for disciplinary reasons.
  • Any fees paid during checkout will not be reimbursed.
  • Cancellation requests must be submitted to summerschool@pisd.edu.

Instructions for Payment

Transportation

• Busing is provided from the student's neighborhood elementary campus.
• Keep in mind that the neighborhood campus may not be the campus the student attends during the school year.
• Please review the program feeder patterns to identify your student's Exploration campus assignment, based on their neighborhood elementary campus.
• Summer bus routes will be posted in May 2026.

Registration

• Instructions for registration can be found here.
• Registration for the 2026 Exploration and PVAA programs will be completed through Skyward Family Access.
  • If you are using the Skyward app on a mobile device, you may not see the Exploration Registration tile.  Please complete the registration steps on a computer or in a mobile device's internet browser.
• There are 3 steps in the registration process:
  • Step 1: Pre-Registration (March 2 - 22, 2026)  
    • Click on the “Summer School Exploration & PVAA Pre-Registration” icon in Skyward Family Access dashboard.
  • Step 2: Course registration (March 23 - April 17, 2026)
  • Step 3: Payment (March 23 - April 17, 2026)
• Registration is not completed until full payment is received.
  • If you register between Monday and Friday of this week, you will have until Friday of the Following week to make full payment.
  • If payment is not received in a timely manner, your child's classes will be removed so we can open up seats for other students.  If this happens, please contact us at SummerSchool@pisd.edu to re-select your child's classes.  Then you will be able to proceed to the payment process.
• Transfer and Schedule Change requests can not be considered after May 1, 2026.
