Robbie & Lynore Robinson Fine Arts Center (FAC)
The Robbie & Lynore Robinson Fine Arts Center was designed and built based on a shared passion and the inspiration of our belief that self-expression and creative thinking are essential to a healthy community. This facility is intended to be a home not just for the arts, and not just for student artists, but a living room; a gathering space for our community.
The citizens of the Plano Independent School District approved $64 Million in funding as part of the 2016 Bond Program for the design and construction of a multi-use, cross-disciplinary performance and exhibition center as a centerpiece of the district’s renowned Fine Arts programing. Perkins&Will of Dallas and Bora Architects of Portland, Oregon were designated Executive Architects and Design Architects respectively for the project in late 2016. Design work began in February of 2017 with these groups in the lead, assisted by Theatrical Consultants, Schuler Shook and Acoustical Designers from Jaffe Holden. McCarthy Construction broke ground on the project in April of 2018 and the venue opened to the public in January of 2021.
In the fall of 2020 the Plano ISD Board of Trustees announced that this unique facility, dedicated to the visual and performing arts in the heart of the Plano community would be named in honor and memory of Dr. George “Robbie” S Robinson, Jr. and his wife Lynore. The Robinsons were active members of the business and arts community of Plano for nearly 40 years. He served as Chairman of the Collin County Cultural Arts District Committee, Board Member of Plano Arts and Cultural Endowment, Inc., and President of the Arts of Collin County Commission. Dr. & Mrs. Robinson were champions and patrons of local organizations such as the Plano Symphony Orchestra, the Art Centre of Plano and avid collectors of a wide range of visual art from their travels around the world. A state-of-the-art venue in the heart of Plano was a dream the Robinsons shared with the district. Sadly, Lynore passed away in 2018 and Robbie followed her in death in October of 2020. Neither of them lived to see this dream become a reality.
The purpose of this venue is to provide a top-notch facility for the display of the exceptional work of the performing and visual art students of the Plano ISD, as a location for artistic events presented by local arts organizations and as a gathering place for the local community. The procedures outlined in the following pages are designed to support this purpose while maintaining the aesthetic and technical excellence of the venues therein.
