• About Virtual Academy

The Plano ISD Virtual Academy is a public, tuition-free school for students in grades K through 6. The fully remote option will provide an opportunity for students who thrive in the online environment to learn virtually.

    Learning Platform Overview

Plano ISD will be using the Edgenuity platform (learning management system) in combination with PISD curriculum to engage students with fun, meaningful courses and curriculum. Taught by Plano ISD’s highly qualified teachers, this standards-aligned curriculum consists of courses in math, English language arts, science, social studies and more. This platform is specifically designed for online learning in a virtual setting. Age appropriate lessons are engaging and feature support and tools to help students along the way. The platform also includes a dedicated parent portal to enhance communication and support of their child’s learning and progress.

In this model, students will participate in both synchronous and asynchronous daily instruction. Students will spend 60-90 minutes per day in a live synchronous session with their teachers in each core content area, with the remainder of their school day engaged in a customized asynchronous learning environment. Teachers will follow student progress and will design the synchronous lessons as appropriate to small groups of students during the live sessions each day.

In addition to the TEKS based curriculum, Edgenuity partners with NWEA® MAP® Growth™ to provide personalized learning paths (Pathblazers or MyPath) using student’s MAP data from the beginning of year assessment or most recent scores. This supplemental resource will be used in conjunction with the course content to support skill development and enrichment in reading and math to ensure students are working on their educational level.
