Mr. Michael Talamantez

I’m so excited about starting another year at Haun Elementary as a kindergarten teacher. I’m looking forward to teaching another new group of future Husky graduates and sharing this year with your wonderful children.

I never quite got away from this area. I grew up in Plano and attended PISD schools from Thomas Elementary all the way through graduation at Plano East. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in Norman after leaving Texas for a short period. I then met my wife Bryna, another Plano native, and we have continued to live in Plano since! We absolutely adore our little rescue dog, Nevaeh. She has boundless energy and keeps us entertained. I am a fan of all the local sports teams, including the Stars, Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks, and FC Dallas, but I most enjoy following European and International soccer. I have been following Chelsea FC since I was in high school and love our U.S. National Teams. I also passionately follow the Sooners, BOOMER, and SMU Mustangs, Go Red! Go Blue! Go Mustangs, S-M-U!

I received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in Norman. I am presently attending Southern Methodist University for my Master's in Education thanks in large part to their support through their Early Literacy Scholars Program. I have a passion for literacy acquisition and instruction and will be completing my Master of Education in Literacy Studies with a specialization in early literacy. As of early 2024 I began Learning Therapy coursework to meet the requirements for certification as an Academic Language Therapist and Reading Specialist.

Teaching Kindergarten was a happy little accident, as they say! I absolutely adore the curiosity and countless “1st times” this grade has to offer. Teaching foundational reading, math, content area, and writing in kindergarten leads to many “aha” moments of discovery and seeing a 5 year-old's face light up at that moment is one of my favorite things about teaching. This transition to early childhood instruction was the spark that started my passion for teaching reading and understanding just how important literacy acquisition is at this early age.

I am looking forward to spending the next year together with you and your children! See you around campus!
