• Group 5: Mathematics

  • Overview

Students complete a mathematics course, and three options are available to cater to the different abilities and levels of student interest. Each course aims to deepen a student’s understanding of mathematics as a discipline and to promote confidence and facility in the use of mathematical language.

  • IH Algebra I - 152061 - 9th Grade

Prerequisites: Math 8 (or the equivalent)  Credit: 1

This course extends students’ previous learning on expressions, equations, and relationships. Students will study patterns and representations and develop their ability to think algebraically and reason symbolically.  The primary focal points in Algebra I include the study of linear, quadratic, and exponential functions and their related transformations, equations, and associated solutions.  Students will use a variety of representations (concrete, pictorial, numerical, symbolic, graphical, and verbal), tools, and technology to model mathematical situations to solve meaningful problems. This course aligns vertically with the sequence of IB math courses.

  • IH Geometry - 153061 - 9th/10th Grade

    Prerequisites: Algebra I   Credit: 1

The course builds on students’ previous study of mathematical concepts to strengthen their mathematical reasoning skills in geometric contexts. Topics include coordinate and transformational geometry; logical argument and constructions; proof and congruence; similarity, proof, and trigonometry; two-and three-dimensional figures; and an introduction to probability and statistics. This course aligns vertically with the sequence of IB math courses.

  • IH Algebra II - 154061 - 9th/10th/11th Grade

Prerequisites: Algebra I and Geometry or concurrently enrolled in Geometry   Credit: 1

In this course students will broaden their knowledge of quadratic functions, exponential functions, and systems of equations. Topics also include logarithmic, square root, cubic, cube root, absolute value, rational functions, and their related equations. In addition, students will extend their knowledge of probability and data analysis. This course aligns vertically with the sequence of IB math courses.

  • IH Pre-calculus - 155061 - 9th/10th/11th Grade

Prerequisites: Honors Algebra II   Credit: 1

IH Pre-calculus is an in-depth study of elementary analysis and trigonometry, and includes an introduction to probably and statistics. This course aligns vertically with the sequence of IB math courses.
