Wildlife Rescue and Conflicts
The Holifield Science Learning Center no longer accepts injured or orphaned wildlife for rehabilitation and release.
The facility's Animal Curator, Elisa Caywood - Best (email: elisa.caywoodbest@pisd.edu) does hold a state rehabilitation permit for some small mammals, and does accept eyes-closed cottontail rabbits for rehabilitation. Acceptance of an animal to Miss Caywood - Best's rehabilitation program is space and resource dependent, as wildlife rehabilitators are volunteers and are not employed or compensated by the state. Please review this page (unaffiliated) to determine if the baby needs help.
If you have found a different species of animal in need, please consult this page published by the National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association for immediate guidance.
Rescue and Rehab Resources for Various Species:
Please remember that all of these organizations are run by volunteers who choose to spend their time helping the public and native wildlife, and that most are non-profit organizations that run on donations.
