Library Mission Statement
The Wells Elementary Library’s mission is to foster a love of learning and empower students to become proficient consumers and creators of information. We collaborate with teachers, provide age-appropriate resources, and advocate for reading improvement by fostering an interest in reading and literature.
Through regular class visits, we promote effective information use, problem-solving skills, and digital citizenship. Our program encompasses literacy, research, technology, makerspace, and digital skills, preparing students for success in an interconnected world.

Volunteers
We love our LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS! Any parent, grandparent, or community member is welcome to be a library volunteer, and no prior library experience is needed. Volunteer duties include checking out books to students, checking in and shelving books, and assisting with other tasks as needed. Contact Mrs. Watts at bethany.watts@pisd.edu any time to be trained for volunteering. Your faithful help each week makes all the difference for our students!

Bluebonnet Reading Challenge
Wells Elementary students in third, fourth, and fifth grade are invited to participate in the Texas Bluebonnet Award Program.
-
Students who read ten bluebonnet books by May 3, 2024 will be invited to a Bluebonnet Celebration after school (date to-be-determined). Students who read ten books will also have their name announced on the morning announcements and be featured on the library “Window of Fame”!
This is an optional reading program and not required for Wells students. Reading logs are available from Mrs. Watts and are due by May 3, 2024.
Due to the limited number of Bluebonnet Book copies in the Wells Library, students participating in the challenge are encouraged to visit the Plano Public Library to check out Bluebonnet books. Bluebonnet books may also be placed on hold at the public library.
Not every book is a good fit for every student. If your child starts a book and realizes that it is not “just right” for him/her, please return it and try another.
About the Program: The Texas Bluebonnet Award Program is a state-wide reading program for students in grades 3-5. Texas librarians nominate 20 new books each year from a variety of genres. The purpose of the program is to promote free-choice reading and expose students to quality literature.

2X2 Reading Challenge
The 2X2 Reading List is a state-wide reading program for children ages two through second grade. Texas librarians create a list of 20 recommended new books each year to encourage voluntary reading.
Wells Elementary students in kinder, first, and second grade are invited to participate in the 2X2 Reading Challenge by reading 15 of the 20 books on the list. When a student listens to a story being read, reads with someone, or reads a book on their own from the list, they may color the title on the "Boot Coloring Sheet." Turn in the boot to Mrs. Watts after reading 15 titles to receive a small prize. Students who complete the challenge will also have their picture displayed on the Library "Window of Fame" and have their name read on the announcements.
This is an optional reading program for Wells students. Reading Boots will be accepted until the beginning of May 2024. Completion of the 2X2 Reading Challenge will count towards the Tryathlon Trophy.
Due to the limited number of 2X2 Books in the Wells Library, students are encouraged to visit the Plano Public Library.
Not every book is a good fit for every student. If your child starts a book and realizes that it is not a good fit for him or her, please return it and try another.
