May 1, 2018 - Plano West Wins Fourth National Academic WorldQuest Championship

 

On April 28, Plano West Senior High School's Academic WorldQuest™ team won the 2018 National Championship in Washington D.C. This competition tests students’ knowledge of international relations, current events and foreign policy issues. Plano West's team of four defeated 45 other teams from across the United States to capture Plano West’s fourth national title. The Plano West team sponsor is Social Studies Teacher John Scott who has coached Plano West teams to all four national titles. Team members are:

2018 Academic WorldQuest® Champions: Richard Guo, Cindy Hao, Christina Lu and Sandipan Nath. 

The World Affairs Councils of America (WACA) hosted this 16th annual Carlos and Malú Alvarez Academic WorldQuest™ National Competition, at the National Press Club. Academic WorldQuest is a flagship youth education program of the national network of World Affairs Councils. Approximately 4,000 students across the country participate in competitions hosted by 45 local World Affairs Councils across the United States. The competition tests high school students' knowledge of international affairs. During the competition, four-person teams compete by answering multiple choice questions divided into ten thematic categories with ten questions for each topic. Topics for the 2017-18 competition were:

  • India’s Bid for Global Power
  • Combating Climate Change
  • Cybersecurity
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Great Decisions
  • The Peacebuilding Toolkit
  • America’s Diplomats
  • Current Events
