About Bettye Haun
Bettye Lynn Spence was born in Van Alsytne, Texas, on February 25, 1934 to Harold Knox and Helen Elizabeth Taylor Spence. She graduated Valedictorian from Tom Bean High School in May, 1951 and attended the University of North Texas, University of Texas at Dallas, and other area colleges.
She was married on November 18, 1951 to William Howard Haun in the Little Chapel in the Woods on the campus of Texas Woman's University in Denton. The Hauns moved to Plano in 1954 where they raised two children. She has five grandchildren.
Bettye was employed as the first secretary in Plano public schools in 1957 by Superintendent of Schools, E.A. Sigler. She worked as school board secretary and administrative assistant until her retirement in 1996. Betty and Howard live on a 120 acre ranch in Grayson County. Bettye currently volunteers with the Heritage Farmstead as a school docent and with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocated for Children) in Grayson County. Her hobbies, "besides grandchildren", include genealogy, reading, traveling, hiking and cooking.
