EC-12 ESL 6-8 Generalist 6-8 English UNT Masters of Library Science

Mrs. Herrera

I've working in Plano ISD since 2001.  Most of those 20+ years have been teaching English and ESL. I graduated from the University of North Texas with my Masters of Library Science in Dec 2019. Now I have fulfilled my life-long dream of being a librarian. I'm the librarian at Sigler Elementary. What I love best about my job is when a child comes and tells me how much they loved the book they read!

I'm a huge nerd who loves reading a wide variety of books, but my favorites are mysteries, Science Fiction, and Fantasy books. In my free time, I write books and watch Doctor Who, Star Trek, Star Wars, Loki, Stranger Things, all kinds of documentaries and more!

I am married and have a son in Junior High, who currently wants to be a zookeeper. We love animals, so we currently have 3 dogs, 3 guinea pigs, a snake, and chickens.

I'm also the Lead Sigler Robotics Coach!

This program is for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, although 4th and 5th graders are the only ones allowed to compete. For more information about FLL (First Lego League), take a look at this page https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/fll . It is a rigorous program that encourages creativity, problem-solving real life problems, teamwork, real life coding skills, strategy, and more!

Here are the Core Values

  • Discovery: We explore new skills and ideas.
  • Innovation: We use creativity and persistence to solve problems.
  • Impact: We apply what we learn to improve our world.
  • Inclusion: We respect each other and embrace our differences.
  • Teamwork: We are stronger when we work together.
  • Fun: We enjoy and celebrate what we do!
Core values are only part of the program. This is not just a fun Lego club that builds random things. Students learn basic programming. They develop ideas to real world problems and present their idea to a FLL Judge. (like the Shark Tank TV show) They design a build a robot and attachments with purpose, which they will explain to judges at competition.

  • My purpose as a librarian is to teach students to be self-sufficient life-long learners, to recognize their potential, to use their resources, to communicate effectively, to develop a growth mindset, to understand that reading and writing is an important life skill and to help them achieve the potential in these areas.
