Michelle Matthews

My name is Michelle Matthews.  I work as the Instructional Specialist at Pearson ECS.  This is my sixth year in my current position.  Prior to this role, I taught for eight years here at Pearson.

I believe in safety. Not just the physical safety of students and staff, but their emotional and mental safety as well.  School is a place where it is safe to be yourself, make mistakes, try new things, and learn.  "Children are not things to be moulded, but people to be unfolded." - Jess Lair

I believe in kindness. I believe that kindness can change our world.  Children are naturally kind, helpful beings.  Our job is to continue to develop that mindset by modeling and encouraging it in our daily interactions with the world.  "It is not our job to toughen our children up to face a cruel and heartless world.  It is our job to raise children who will make the world a little less cruel and heartless." - L.R. Knost

I believe in play.  Play is the way we learn, grow, challenge ourselves, solve problems, interact socially, and become well-rounded, life-long learners.  Play is important for all of us, no matter your age!  "Play is the highest form of research." - Albert Einstein
