Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jessica Spiel

College: University of Denver

Teaching Experience: I am entering my 11th year at McCall Elementary, and this is my third year as the ESL (English Second Language) Specialist. I was a full-time substitute for Plano ISD for 4 years and had several long-term jobs teaching K-5th grade, PE, Fitness, and Special Education. I quickly figured out that “there is truly no place like McCall!” That's when I became a certified teacher to fulfill my passion for working with children. I taught 3rd Grade for four years before becoming the ESL Coach and Interventionist. I am thrilled to be on the awesome Specialists Team, and it has truly been a dream come true to be a part of the McCall family all these years.

About Me: My husband, Strat, and I have been married for 27 years and have 3 beautiful daughters. We have lived in Plano for 23 years, and our children attended Plano ISD schools. My husband teaches 8th grade U.S. History in Plano ISD, and my oldest daughter literally followed in my footsteps and became a teacher at McCall! She taught Kindergarten for two years, and she is moving up to 1st grade this year! I graduated from the University of Denver with a Bachelor’s in Business Management and a minor in Child Psychology. I have been teaching Religious Education at my church for 17 years, and I was a Girl Scout troop leader for 12 years when my girls were younger. My greatest joy is spending quality time with my family and friends! I love traveling, reading, playing tennis, and pickleball.

I am excited about exploring many wonderful learning opportunities with my ESL students this year!  I have always enjoyed learning about new cultures and celebrating diversity in my classroom. I love when my students share stories, traditions, knowledge, and language from their own culture. My top priority is to help all students feel welcome at McCall Elementary. My most important goal in my classroom is to create a family of learners who show kindness and respect for one another. We will celebrate our achievements and struggles, support and encourage each other, and always keep trying, so that we may reach our full potential. I can't wait to start this year with your child. This is where my heart is!
