Welcome to Third Grade!

My name is Melissa Lawson. I am beyond thrilled to be teaching third grade reading and writing for the 2024-2025 school year! It is not lost on me the unique opportunity I have to make a difference in the lives of students each day. My goal is for each student to continue to develop a love for learning and literacy through a safe, engaging, and welcoming environment. 

We will strive to build a kind, collaborative, community-oriented space that celebrates culture and promotes good citizenship. We will be curious, compassionate, intentional and inquisitive. We will set high expectations and rigor for each other and support one another as we grow.

About Me

I have been in the education industry for ten years in various roles, though, this is my second year as a classroom teacher. I could not be more thrilled. Prior to moving into this profession, I spent ten years in the broadcast/public relations sector and feel the blend of the two industries has provided me a broad background from which to pull strategies.

I have an amazing family! My incredible husband of 18 years is an endless support system and my best friend. I have two children; Ryley, 16 years old, is in the 11th grade, and my son, Connor, 14 years old, is in the 9th grade. They are both incredible young adults and make me proud every day. I will likely talk about them often in our work.

In my spare time I am a huge fan of theme parties. I love Zumba as a fitness routine. I am powered by coffee and love dark chocolate. The beach is my happy place and I love the color of the ocean - well, when it is turquoise.
