What about people who are hired after the two trade days?
Posted by:If you were hired after the trade days, then those days do not count against you. That means you would not have to earn trade hours this year.

How do I track my Trade Hours?
Posted by:All PISD professional learning activities offered outside of regular working hours or days should be tagged as trade hours in PowerSchool if they meet the above criteria, but must still be approved by your Principal or Supervisor to count towards your Trade Hours.
If you are attending a workshop or conference that is hosted outside of PISD, you can upload your certificate to PowerSchool Develop as an Out of District Activity to request credit from your administrator.

What doesn't count for trade hours?
Posted by:Training (SafeSchools, Safety/Security, Finance, Assessment, TELPAS) that are compliance based or meetings (informational meetings, games/performances, planning) do not meet the requirements for Campus or Personal Trade Hours. In addition, trade hours must align with personal goals (TPG/SLO), CIP's, or HRS to be approved.

What about part-time teachers?
Posted by:A full time teacher has to earn 15 hours of Trade Eligible Professional Learning each year.To determine how many hours a part time employee needs to accrue, simply multiply your contracted amount by 15. Therefore a half-time teacher on a .5 contract would need to earn 7.5 hours of Trade Eligible Professional Learning (15 x .5 = 7.5). -
If I only complete a portion of the 15 hour requirement, will I have to submit for unpaid leave?
Posted by:You will submit for unpaid leave for the hours you do not accrue.

Can I take a personal day to attend a conference/workshop and then count that time as Trade Hours?
Posted by:No, Personal Trade must be accrued outside your regular work hours and should not take the place of time you have with students.

May I do a book study for Trade Hours?
Posted by:Yes! You may request professional learning trade hours for the reflective activities, meetings and discussion time you spend with your Book Study Group. Check PowerSchool for the approval form and details before launching your Book Study Group.
Note: Professional Learning hours are not awarded for time spent reading.

Do campus administrators need to earn Trade Hours?
Posted by:Yes, campus administrators are responsible for participating in 15 hours of trade-eligible learning for the school year. This can include any training which occurs outside of the regular workday (and approved by supervisor), conferences, book studies, online courses in PowerSchool, Google Certification Cohort, etc. Administrators can also participate in any trade-eligible training designed for teachers. The due date for trade hours is the same for campus administrators and teachers.

What if a campus or department sends me to a conference?
Posted by:If a campus or a PISD department pays for a conference or workshop registration, and you attend outside of regular work hours, those hours count toward the trade hour requirement.
As long as you are not provided with a stipend for attending the learning, the hours are eligible to be counted toward Trade Hours. (Remember, all Trade Hours must be approved by your Administrator).

Can I earn more than 15 Trade Hours?
Posted by:YES! You can keep learning all year; however, only 15 hours are required.

Graduate Hours for Trade Credit?
Posted by:Yes! You may earn up to 5 Trade Hours for your graduate coursework. Please check out PowerSchool for more information.

Does New Teacher Orientation count for personal Trade Hours?
Posted by:Yes! New Teacher Orientation Occurs BEFORE your official start date, so it counts towards your Trade Hours.

Downloading Your PL Credit Transcripts
Instructions on downloading your transcript can be found on the homepage of PowerSchool Professional Learning.

Teachers may begin accruing Trade Hours on the day following the last day of school. Trade Hours are due May 1, 2025.
