B.A. Psychology, minor in Sociology EC-6 Generalist Certification ESL Supplemental Certification

Ms. Culp

Hi! My name is Shana Culp, and this is my first year teaching in Plano ISD, as well as at Rasor Elementary. However, this is my eighth year as an elementary school teacher, and I am so excited to be able to continue to do the work I love on the Rasor campus. I believe this is truly what I have been called to do, and these are the scholars that I have been called to teach.

I have always wanted to do work that would help children. Earning my B.A. in psychology with an emphasis on child psychology and development from Hardin-Simmons University, it was my goal to continue my education to earn an M.A. and, later, my license to become a child psychologist. However, while earning money as a substitute teacher during what was meant to be a gap year between my undergraduate and graduate studies, I fell in love with teaching. I went on to enroll in the Region 10 TPC, earning an alternative teaching certification in EC-6 general education. With my background in child psychology and development and with my love for watching young minds expand, I believe in teaching the whole child, endeavoring not only to ensure that they grow academically, but also as citizens, as well. Every child can learn, and every child deserves to learn. It just sometimes takes helping them to see the value in their education, as well as in themselves to get them there, and I am so happy to be one of the many who get to help these students realize their potential.

As a mother of three, one of my favorite things to do is spend time with my family. We play games, watch shows and movies and sometimes just sit and talk. When not spending time with my kids, I love reading and doing variety puzzle books, and sometimes I get inspired to write. I love art and artistic expression of all kinds, and I have recently developed a love of football, as my son is a freshman on his university football team.

Though this is my first year, here, in Plano, I look forward to many more years of growth and building relationships with our students. We SOAR to new heights all the time. Let's go Rockets!
