Mrs. Amy Semifero
I have had the privilege of facilitating the learning of art students at the secondary level for the past twenty years in Plano ISD. I have been an educator in Plano ISD starting my career in 2001 as a Williams Warrior. I have been an Academy Titan, a Prosper ISD Eagle, a Clark Cougar and am excited to be teaching visual art students at Bowman Middle School! In addition to my long career as an art educator, I have served as a facilitator in the CTE classroom environment teaching digital design and media production. I have experience teaching and creating with all art media and techniques, including digital works and animation. My proudest educational moments include being the 2016 Texas Art Education Association’s Senior High Art Educator of the Year and a finalist in the Texas Instruments Foundations Innovations in STEM Teaching Awards.
I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with two undergraduate degrees in Visual Art Studies and Studio Art. With the advice of my mentor, Dr. Holle Humphries, I advanced my education at the University of North Texas in Denton, TX where I earned a Master's degree of Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a minor in Technology. I have served on a myriad of campus and district-level roles beyond that of a classroom educator, such as mentor to students and new teachers, campus team leader, district secondary team leader, district curriculum writer, and leader of professional development at the district, state and national levels.
In addition to my duties as a public educator, I serve as the State VASE High School Event Director for the Texas Art Education Association’s Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) Program.
