After graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1971, I began teaching Life Science at Cullen Junior High in Houston ISD. I volunteered to coach the 7th grade football team in 1973 at Cullen and caught the "coaching bug'". Over the course of the next years, I served as a junior high and high school assistant coach in 5 different schools in southeast and central Texas schools. At two of those stops, I was the Athletic director and head football coach. In 1989, I completed my Master's in Educational Leadership from Lamar University in Beaumont, TX. And, yes, I had to drive to campus for the classes! There were no online classes available at that time. In 1992, I moved into administration by serving as assistant principal, transportation coordinator and textbook director for Hardin ISD in southeast Texas. In 2002, I moved to Plano ISD to teach and coach at the middle school level. Over the years, I picked up several hobbies such as flyfishing, golfing, painting and motorcycle riding.
