  • Welcome to the Stinson Library page! The mission of the Stinson Library is to create a safe, nurturing environment for students to grow as readers and thinkers through engaging and effective school library practices. Take a look at the helpful links and information on this page to find out more information tabs about the library and how to promote reading with your students.

  • Hours of Operation

Mrs. Morrison is in the library daily from 7:25 until 3:45.  Students come to the library every week or every other week with their classes at a scheduled time.  Additionally, they may come to the library for checkouts at the following times:

    • 7:25-7:40 (before school starts)
    • During class and recess times (with teacher permission)
    • Parents who wish to visit the library during the school day or after school should make an appointment with Mrs. Morrison.

  • Library Lessons

Your child will check out and enjoy many great books from our library this year, but they will do and experience so much more as well! Each library class enjoys a targeted library lesson each week. Some of the lesson topics this year will include learning the basics of digital citizenship and information literacy, using online databases for research, learning about authors and illustrators, identifying features of non-fiction books, honing reading and comprehension skills, practicing computer coding, and much more.

Also, the Stinson Library features MakerSpace lessons, which is an opportunity for students to explore STEAM activities (STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and encourages your students to ask questions, create, and collaborate through the use of fun, curricular-related activities.

  • Texas Bluebonnet and 2x2 Books

3rd-5th grade students will be challenged to read some of this year’s Texas Bluebonnet Books. There are 20 books on the list, but students have free choice to read any from the list. These books can be checked out from Stinson, any public library, or online book services. Once read, students will turn in a Bluebonnet Buck (located in the Stinson library) to Mrs. Morrison.  When students have turned in enough Bluebonnet Bucks, they will be invited to a special Bluebonnet Celebration in March/April (TBD). When Bluebonnet Bucks will be due is still TBD. For a list of this year's Texas Bluebonnet Books and to learn more about this program, check out this link. It should be noted that this challenge is completely optional for students. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mrs. Morrison at lindsey.morrison@pisd.edu.

Kinder-2nd grade students are encouraged to read books from the Texas 2x2 list, especially if they have felt "stuck" reading the same book over and over. Books are displayed for student choice, but are not required for students to check out.

    • 7:20-7:35 (before school starts)
    • Recess TBD
    • After school TBD (parent permission required)

Students who wish to be a library helper need to see Mrs. Morrison for information on how to sign up.

  • Volunteer Opportunities

We love our LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS!  Any parent, grandparent, or community member is welcome to be a library volunteer, and no prior library experience is needed.  Volunteer duties include checking out books to students, checking in and shelving books, and assisting with other tasks as needed. You can sign up for volunteer slots on Voly. Your faithful help each week makes all the difference for our students!

  • Book Fair

The PTA hosts the Scholastic Book Fair twice in the library. Here are the upcoming book fair dates for this school year:
