Mission Statement
To work together with teachers and parents to create a supportive learning environment where each student, regardless of ability or background, can reach his highest potential and learn skills to become a productive and independent member of our community.
Special education services are available to all students with disabilities who qualify for the services through referral. The referral process used to identify eligible students begins with the recommendation of the Children's Assessment and Review Evaluation (CARE) Team. If testing is recommended, a comprehensive assessment is completed by the district diagnosticians. When an assessment indicates that special education services are appropriate, an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is developed, according to the specific needs of the child. An ARD (Admission, Review, Dismissal) meeting is then held with parents, staff, administration, and specialists in order to adopt and prepare for the implementation of the IEP. Our special and general ed departments, administration, and parents all work together toward meeting specific needs in the least restrictive environment appropriate toward the success for that particular student.
The speech and language therapy is another area of service provided by Special Education. The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for treating and working with children identified with communication disorders such as articulation, language fluency and voice.
