Hi! My name is Mrs. Roxanne Barnes, and I will be your student’s 3rd-grade teacher for the 2023-2024 school year! This will be my 10th year teaching at Hickey Elementary! I am also the 3rd-grade Team Leader, the AVID Site Coordinator, and a CoLead of the Hickey BotStars with Mr. Ruiz.

I was born in Houston, TX but moved to Garland when I was 3. There I attended Ruth Roach Elementary for K-5th grade. I then attended Sam Houston Middle School before graduating from Garland High School in 2003.

In May 2011, I graduated with an Associate of Art in Teaching from Richland Community College. Then, in December 2014, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Woman’s University with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies. I earned my Master's in Education in Learning and Technology from WGU in May 2023!

When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Jeremiah, and our 2 dogs, Thor and Finn. I love playing video games, reading (on my Kindle and physical books), crafting, and growing my collection of Starbucks cups! My husband and I also have anew hobby, collecting Pokemon Cards! My best friend and I hold season tickets to the Dallas Summer Musicals, and I can't wait to see Hamilton again! I also enjoy increasing my professional learning! I'm one of the leaders of the Google Educator Group of North Texas.
