Ms. Blacketer
Hi! My name is Nikki Blacketer, and I am the Hickey Music Teacher!
In music, students will first learn to use the instrument in their bodies - their voice! We will learn music literacy through games, dances, reading, writing, and playing instruments.
Here are some events to look forward to this year in music:
- All 4th grade students - Veteran’s Day music program: Thursday evening, November 10 at 6 pm (Students arrive at 5:45 pm). Wear red, white, and/or blue!
- All 2nd grade students – Storybook music program: Thursday evening, March 23. More information will come home in February and March.
- 4th and 5th grade Hickey Choir meets every Thursday and will have 2 evening concerts this school year: Thursday, December 8 and Thursday, March 2. See the full choir schedule here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1SVjJZTw2ZASUHzSheV3_YdHDgPaF8NPb/view
A little about me:
I am a flute player, and I also love to play the ukulele and to sing. I grew up in Allen then went to college at Texas Tech University where I completed my Bachelor’s degrees in music education and in flute performance. I have a daughter and three dogs. I love to run and read. I am certified in the Kodály-method of teaching music and firmly believe Zoltan Kodály when he said, “With music, one’s whole future life is brightened. This is such a treasure in life that it helps us over many troubles and difficulties. Music is nourishment, a comforting elixir. Music multiplies all that is beautiful and of value in life.”
