Huffman HistoryHuffman Elementary is named after Joseph T. Huffman who was born in Spencer County, Kentucky on April 24, 1837. In 1858, Joseph Huffman moved to Collin County, Texas. He settled with his wife near White Rock Creek. Joseph Huffman was a very active member in Church and a charter member the Frankford Masonic Lodge. He was one of the early farmers who settled in the area where Huffman Elementary School is located today. Joseph T. Huffman died on October 4, 1908 and was buried at Frankford. His gravesite can be visited today.
Huffman Elementary was built in 1984 and is the home of the Huffman Hawks! Huffman is a nationally recognized Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and has been recognized as an Exemplary School by the Texas Education Agency accountability system.
In 1993, Huffman was named by Redbook magazine as one of the top 150 schools in the nation. In 2000-2001 Huffman was listed in the Region's best 250 elementary schools in D Magazine as sponsored by the Perot Company. We are a school that takes great pride in our history and academic excellence.
In 2017, Huffman became an IB PYP candidate school.
In 2019, Huffman became the IB World School at Huffman Elementary. Huffman is Plano ISD's first choice school for elementary families.
