I encourage students to check out a variety of both fiction and non-fiction books each week. I show them how to search for books in our online catalog, how to place holds for books, and how to locate books on the shelves. To access our online catalog, type 126.catalog.pisd.edu into any browser.

The Mitchell Library supports two reading incentive programs sponsored by the Texas Library Association (TLA). Each reading list consists of books recommended by children's librarians across the state of Texas. I provide reading logs and assist students with accessing several of these titles throughout the school year:
2X2 titles (for ages two years old through 2nd grade)

We love our LIBRARY VOLUNTEERS! Any parent, grandparent, or community member is welcome to be a library volunteer, and no prior library experience is needed. Volunteer duties include checking out books to students, checking in and shelving books, and assisting with other tasks as needed. Your faithful help each week makes all the difference for our students!

Here are the anticipated dates of our much-loved Scholastic Book Fairs for the 2023-24 school year:
- Fall Book Fair: 9/13/2023 - 9/22/2023
- Spring Book Fair: TBD
Scholastic has the books your kids LOVE to read! Details will be forthcoming about each fair (special events, volunteer opportunities, etc.).

Your child will check out and enjoy many great books from our library this year, but they will do and experience so much more as well! Each library class enjoys a targeted library lesson each week. The library lessons support the curricular needs of the grade levels. We use literature, computer education, and activities in a variety of lessons.
This year our focus will be on the following: (These are in no particular order.)

Did you know you can access our Mitchell Library resources from home? Our district subscribes to multiple resources and databases such as PebbleGo, National Geographic kids, e-books, World Book and Britannica encyclopedias, the Dallas Morning News, and more. You and your student can access ALL these at home for FREE! You can find the link to our campus' library catalog at the bottom of this web page. From there, you can access our online catalog to search our own collection, and you can follow the link to all of the Elementary Resources and E-books mentioned above.
PLEASE NOTE: Since some of the databases are subscription-based, your student may need a log-in to access some of the resources if they are using a non-PISD network device.
