Dr. Oliver Tate Mitchell
Mitchell Elementary School opened its doors in the fall of 1992. The Mitchell Meteors were led by Sandra Wysong, Principal. Mitchell served children in Collin County who lived in North Dallas. The students had previously attended Brinker Elementary School. Pamela Murray was named as Mitchell’s second principal in the spring of 1998. Linda Patrick began her first year as a principal at Mitchell in the fall of 2006.
The school is named for Dr. Oliver Tate Mitchell. He was born near Corsicana, Texas, on December 25, 1880. He received his literary education at Trinity University and graduated from the American Medical College in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Mitchell married Annie Jackson of Renner, Texas, and began his practice in Renner. They settled in Plano about 1929. Dr. Mitchell practiced extensively in the Plano-Renner-Richardson area. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Rotary Club, Business and Professional Men’s Club and the First Methodist Church.
