History of Mitchell
The school is named for Dr. Oliver Tate Mitchell. He was born near Corsicana, Texas, on December 25, 1880. He received his literary education at Trinity University and graduated from the American Medical College in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Mitchell married Annie Jackson of Renner, Texas, and began his practice in Renner. They settled in Plano about 1929. Dr. Mitchell practiced extensively in the Plano-Renner-Richardson area. He served on the Plano ISD board from 1942-48.
Mitchell Elementary opened in 1992 at a cost of $3.9 million.
