District PTA Reflections Winners, District Science Fair Winners, Exemplary Writing School, Continental Mathematics League winners, District High Point Science Fair Trophy Award, “Just For The Kids” High Performing School. National School of Academic Excellence, 2005-06 Destination Imagination Regional Winner, 2006-2007 Destination Imagination State Winner and Global Groves Choir performed at the 2005-06 Texas Music Education Association Convention.

Parent Involvement Opportunities
Plano Council of PTA's names the Barksdale PTA the “Best PTA in Plano” in 1998-1999. Outstanding Parent involvement Program” award from the Texas PTA and the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association in 1999. PTA provides volunteer and financial support for our instructional programs, including education trips, parent education, materials and supplies. 100% of staff are member of PTA. School Based Improvement Committee, Volunteers for Library/Office/YO packet/Field Day/School Carnival/School Barbecue/Publishing Center/classrooms, Practical Parenting Workshops, Yearbook, Special projects (Texas Day, Cultural Arts, Book Fair, etc.) Landscape beautification, Field day, Shoe Box Science, Book Fair (pajama party, storybook reading night), Study Buddies (tutoring program) Partnership with Meadows Elementary. State PTA award for “Best Parenting Program” 2003. McGruff House Exemplary School. 2005-06 Highest honors in Area 10 for their directory, 2005-06 Highest Honors in Area 10 for their web site advancing to the State competition. Overall High Honors from the Plano Council of PTAs.
