• Music

  • The music program in the Plano ISD is based on the Kodaly method of music education. Zoltan Kodaly was a Hungarian composer whose passion it was to save the folk music from his country from being lost. With that in mind, our curriculum focuses on folk traditions to teach musical elements of sight-singing and inner hearing.

    Intermediate Grades
Students come to music twice a week for 25 minutes per class. Students are typically challenged during the course of the week to derive rhythm patterns, melodic patterns, movement patterns (yes, that's right) and discern other musical elements such as dynamics and tempo.

    Primary Grades
Kindergarten through Second, come to music two times a week for 25 minutes each, alternating with PE. Early musical experiences focus on beat competency (keeping a steady beat), matching pitch, interpreting musical materials and playing instruments. Folk dancing and drama are also included.
