    Martha Hunt

Martha Hunt, namesake of Martha Hunt Elementary School

Mrs. Martha Hunt was born in Sherman, Texas, on December 18, 1932, to Margaret and Oscar Benton Moss and passed away on April 14, 2017. She spent her childhood years in Sherman, Texas, where she also attended and graduated from Austin College. She was married for 44 years to Jimmy Don Hunt, until Mr. Hunt’s death in 1999.

Mrs. Hunt served the Plano Independent School District for 42 years. She began her career in education as a teacher at Mendenhall Elementary. She later served as the district’s Math Curriculum Coordinator and returned to Mendenhall Elementary as principal where she served until her retirement in 1997. Her motto was, "Let's do what is best for the students." She recognized the potential in her teachers and her students, and she encouraged them to become the best they could be. In 2005, the Plano ISD Board of Trustees approved the naming of the elementary school located at 415 Oriole Drive in Murphy, Texas in honor of Martha Hunt and her distinguished career in Plano ISD.
