My name is Indira Curtis. I was born and raised in Panama City, Panama. In 1994, I moved to the United States. I am happily married to Glen Deckard, a native of Texas. I have two daughters, Jamie and Jewel. Jamie is pursuing a degree in Nursing, and Jewel is getting her Master’s in Biological Anthropology. I also have a granddaughter, Sunny Belén, who is one year old. I also have a small dog named Bruiser.
Some of my hobbies are weightlifting, reading non-fiction, traveling, gardening, playing tennis, hiking, spending time with family, and paddleboarding.
I got my teaching degree from the University of Texas at Dallas. I have been at Memorial since 2004. My first-grade teacher’s passion, determination, and love inspired me to become a teacher. Teaching is my passion, and I will continue to make a difference in a child’s life until I retire.

What Memorial means to me.
I have been part of the Memorial Family for over 18 years and I am very proud to be one of the pillars of this wonderful institution. Memorial has helped me grow not only in my professional career but also as a person because it has taught me humility, empathy, passion, patience, collaboration, grace, and optimism. Memorial has shaped me over the years to be a better teacher; to always persevere against any obstacles to help our kids succeed.
