Mrs. Ashley Hendrickson

Welcome, students and parents!  Thank you so much for visiting my page!  I am entering my 12th year as a teacher, my third year in Plano ISD, and this year I am blessed to have been given the opportunity to come over to Clark High School as their new AVID Coordinator and 9th Grade Elective teacher.  I've been a part of AVID in various capacities over the last 9 years - as a co-coordinator, as an elective teacher, and as an active member of a site team.  In addition, for most of my career I've been an AP and Dual Credit English teacher and professor, an AP Reader for College Board, and an AP English curriculum writer for the National Math and Science Initiative.  Though I've spent much of my career in an English classroom, at heart, I think I've always run my classroom as an AVID classroom.  I am so passionate about the work we do in this program!

I attended undergrad at The University of Texas at Austin, where I earned my B.A. in English, and then attended Texas State University, where I earned my master's in Literature.  I'm a self-professed book nerd - the majority of boxes I moved from Plano Senior to Clark HS were my personal library - I love filling my room with beautiful words and books that I can put in the hands of kids.  My classroom is colorful and cheerful - I like to say it looks like a unicorn threw up in it.  I hope you get to see it one day soon!

With the support of my husband Jacob, and the love of my two beautiful babies Erik (2.5) and Johanna (almost 11 months), I am blessed to be encouraged daily in doing the work that I love so much and am so passionate about.

This school year, 2020-2021, is going to be so unique.  As your AVID teacher and AVID coordinator, I hope to support you in any way I can through the tough and strange times ahead.  Though this won't be the traditional AVID experience any of us are used to, it WILL be a memorable one.  We may be separated by computer screens and bandwidth, but my goal this year is that we will become a close knit AVID family.  I am here for you, and I look forward to meeting each and every one of you.  :D
