Amy Nguyen

Amy Nguyen will be entering her first year teaching at Otto Middle School this fall as the Associate Director of Orchestras. Coming from a musical family in Carrollton, Texas, Ms. Nguyen began studying piano at age four and viola at age 10. She graduated from Newman Smith High School where she participated in orchestra as a violist and violinist, including a year as a viola section member of the Texas All State Orchestra, choir, musical productions as a pianist, and marching band as a percussionist.

Ms. Nguyen earned her Bachelor's of Music Education degree from Baylor University. There she was a head group class teacher and private teacher at the Baylor String Project, a program that gave local students the opportunity to learn to play instruments at a low cost. She was also in the Baylor Symphony Orchestra serving as principal and assistant principal violist, as well as social media manager. Other performances include the TMEA 100th Anniversary Convention with the BSO, Baylor Women's Choir, and Baylor Opera Theatre's The Tender Land, a finalist for the American Prize in Opera Performance.

As a student teacher, Ms. Nguyen's ensembles and students have earned sweepstakes at UIL Contest and spots at high performing music schools. She was named Outstanding String Student Teacher of the Year in her last year at Baylor.

Outside of the classroom, Ms. Nguyen enjoys crocheting, baking, working out, singing, traveling, and spending time with friends.
