Mrs. Farideh Banks

I am so excited to start my 17th year of teaching (first here at Otto though)!  I am new to Plano ISD coming from Garland for all of my prior 16 years.  I have taught 7th and 8th grade Science (on-level and honors) as well as Robotics engineering.  I graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a degree in Biological Health Sciences.  I then decided to go into teaching and got my post-baccalaureate certification from Texas A&M-Commerce.  Two years after beginning my teaching career, I went back to Texas A&M-Commerce and got my masters degree in math/science secondary education. I am certified in 4-8 science and 6-12 CTE.  I used to travel with a company called People To People and took numerous middle school students all over the world each summer.  We have been to England, France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Italy and China.  I stopped traveling with the company once I had my kids.

I met my husband my first week of college and we became friends for 6 years before we finally began dating.  We got married at the Old Red Courthouse in Dallas in 2008 and now have two amazing sons.  My oldest is 11 years old and is starting middle school this year while my youngest is 9 and in the fourth grade at Schell.  I love being a mom more than anything and I feel that teaching is an extension of that.  I see all my students as my own kids and care for them just the same.  I also have several fur babies:  a dog, two cats, a hedgehog and a ball python, Alysssa, who lives in my classroom (in her tank).  Fall is my favorite time of the year and camping is my favorite fall family activity.
