Mrs. Miriam (Gorham)Carpenter
Hello Bobcat family! I go by Mrs. Carpenter but you will see Gorham-Carpenter in my info on your schedule.
I am in my 16th year of teaching in Plano ISD. I am a Plano East graduate ('86), got married and moved to San Diego for 13 years. We had a child in '96 and decided that we needed to be nearer our parents so moved back to Plano in 1998. I went back to college, UTD, had another baby in 2001 and graduated in 2002. My husband, Travis, and I have been married now almost 34 years. We have 2 sons, Tristan and Clay, and live on the East side of Plano and love it!
I graduated from UTD in 2002 with a Bachelors of Literary Studies and my teaching certificate. I started off teaching Science at Bowman Middle School, helped open Otto teaching Science, then moved to Texas History and now World Cultures. I am the PLC lead for 6th Social Studies and one of the Cheer sponsors here at Otto. I love teaching students about all the different cultures in the world as I traveled as a child with my parents and still love to travel now.
I love to read, garden and hang out with my boys. And I love animals: we have dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, and turtles, and many outdoor pets on our creek lot. I love to be outside hiking or playing location games like Munzee, Geocaching and Wallabee.
My purpose in teaching is to do my best each day to give your student relevant knowledge, the courage to try new things, the curiosity to seek new answers and the ability to be the best they can be.
