    What is AVID?

"AVID, Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness system for elementary through higher education that is designed to increase school-wide learning and performance. The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change." ~AVID, January 21, 2014

  • AVID Announements

The AVID program at McMillen frequently welcomes guest speakers to visit with our students about their careers/professions. If you or someone you know would like to spend a day with us, we would love to have you speak in our five AVID classes. Students love to meet people from various career fields, since they are currently narrowing their own choices for college majors. It’s super easy, and we make you feel welcome and comfortable as our guest. We are currently booking our guest speakers, so if you are interested, please email our AVID coordinator, Mike Abney, at Michael.abney@pisd.edu. He will reply to your email with available dates and times, and our AVID students will benefit from your expertise, your stories, and your advice. Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you!
