Degrees and Certifications:

Laura Schnitzer

I am a proud graduate of the Plano Independent School District and attended Hughston Elementary, Carpenter Middle School, Clark High School and Plano Senior High School. I received my bachelor’s degree in both elementary and special education from Stephen F. Austin State University and later received a master’s degree in reading from Texas A&M University-Commerce. I completed a second master’s degree in school counseling. Prior to having children, I taught at the Richardson ISD for five years, working with children with learning disabilities. After being away from teaching to stay home with my kids, I came back to Plano ISD in 2005.  While in Plano, I taught second grade, ESL, and third grade bilingual. My husband, Larry, retired as the  Wind Ensemble Director at Booker T. Washington HSPVA in the Dallas ISD.  We have two children, Jacob and Jessie, who both went through the Plano schools and graduated from Plano Senior High School. I am eager to get to know the Barksdale community and serve as a counselor at Barksdale Elementary.  Go Broncos!
