Ms. Jonnie Chamness
Hi! My name is Jonnie Chamness, and I am thrilled to join the Frankford ELA team. While I am new to Plano ISD, this year marks my 9th year in the classroom. I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade English, but I must admit- I love 8th grade the most! After my first year teaching, I moved quickly into a Team Lead position and then into ELA Department Head. I look forward to meeting many new families and working hard to support your student as they strive to achieve their educational goals.
I was born and raised in Dallas, Tx. I graduated from Bishop Lynch High School and moved to Virginia for college. I earned my Bachelor's in English: Creative Writing from Randolph-Macon Woman's College. In college, I played rugby and rode as a show jumper for the equestrian team. Once I graduated, I moved back to Dallas to be with my family. Jobs were scarce for English majors at that time, but I was fortunate enough to fall into a job teaching swim lessons for a local college's Continuing Education program. 15 years ago, I started my own business teaching private swim lessons, which I continue to do during the summer months when I am not busy traveling.
My 16-year-old daughter is my favorite person in the whole world (even when she is driving me crazy with her teenage antics). We love to travel and try new things. Both of us love to read, and you can often find us in the audience of local musicals, plays, and concerts.
This is going to be a great year! GO FALCONS!
