Mrs. Cathy Martinez
This will be my 17th year of teaching, I have taught in a Self-Contained Classroom, Dyslexia, and Kindergarten. This is my second year here at Christie Elementary, I previously taught at Thomas Elementary, Lone Oak Elementary, and did my student teaching at Crocket Elementary. I originally went to East Field Community college to get my Nursing degree. During that time, I got married to my husband and had our first child. After graduation, I worked at Mesquite Community Hospital in the ER, Admitting, and then the Home Health departments. I also worked at Medical Center of Mesquite in the Home Health and Hospice departments. I worked 5 years as a Nurse before I had our second child. I then became a stay at home mom, volunteering at my oldest daughter's school and teaching youngest daughter how to read, write, and add by the time she was three.
Once I started teaching the first graders at our church on Wednesday nights; I realized I wanted to go back to school to become a teacher. So I re-enrolled in college and 18 months later, I became a teacher. I taught 1 year of kindergarten before working in Special Education. When I am not at school or church, you can find me home sewing, quilting, or embroidering something new. I love to make things for people and give them gifts, it means a lot to me that everyone knows how much they are appreciated. I look forward to teaching here at Christie and getting to know everyone.
