Mrs. Courtney J. Washington

Greetings Wolves!

Words cannot begin to express how excited I am to be the principal at Shepton High School.  SHS has a dynamic, forward-thinking staff, and a dedicated community.  My belief in all of our Shepton Wolves and their potential is undeniable.  I am committed to making an impact on each student’s future.  I am honored to be your servant leader.

I graduated from Grambling State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology Pre-Medicine, and I have a Master’s degree from the University of North Texas in Educational Administration.  Prior to coming to Plano, I spent nine years of my educational career with the Irving Independent School District.  In Irving ISD, I taught seventh grade science for four years and served as an assistant principal for five years at the middle school level.

In Plano, I have served as an assistant principal at Armstrong Middle School for two years and as an assistant principal at the high school level at Shepton and Jasper respectively.  Education is in my blood; both of my parents are retired educators.   The fundamental belief that education is the key to a successful life has always been the core of who I am.  I truly believe that education is the great equalizer.   It is with this philosophy, experience, and understanding of the development of the whole child that I ask for your trust and support.  In continuing with the spirit of excellence at Carpenter, I am determined to keep "Providing all students a quality education that connects learning to life."

My husband and I are natives of south Louisiana with solid roots in Texan traditions.  Texas has been our home for several years, and Texas is where we plan to retire.   In my spare time, I enjoy reading, dancing, singing, traveling, and being with family and friends.   I am a proud, active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  I also love spending time with my furbaby, Bevy!  She is a diva.

Every year, I look forward to making life-long connections with the staff, students, and the community.  My door is always open; please drop by whenever you get a chance.

~ Courtney
