Daffron, John Marshall
(1863-1928)
John Marshall Daffron was born in Kentucky and named after the United States Chief Justice, John Marshall. He moved to Murphy, Texas, when he was 21 and married Maude Salmon. He was a farmer known for raising prize-winning bronze turkeys. John Daffron valued education. In the evenings, the Daffron family would gather around the fireplace where John would listen to his children recite their school lessons. He also saw that his eleven children had opportunities for training in elocution, dance, drawing, and music. He also served as a school trustee at the original Barksdale School.
Daffron Elementary bears the name of John Marshall Daffron and salutes the value of education!
Daffron Elementary opened in 1990.
